The Dementia-inclusive Planning and Design Guidelines include three design realms, which organize information based on the scale and stage of implementation. Each realm includes several strategies, which identify high-level categories of action within the built environment. There are 20 strategies in total across the three realms.
These guidelines offer a resource on dementia-inclusive planning and design for anyone involved in shaping city streets and spaces. The goal is to equip planners and community members with the tools to design and advocate for neighbourhoods that support wellbeing for people living with dementia. This document additionally seeks to help community members, people living with dementia, and care partners understand how the environment can support their independence, comfort, and safety.
