The main purpose of Alzheimer's or memory cafes is to reduce social isolation, both for individuals living with dementia and for their care partners. Beth Soltzberg started the Percolator Memory Cafe Network in 2014 as a mutual assistance structure to help high-quality cafes spread throughout Massachusetts, USA. Based on the experience of the growing network of cafes, she produced the toolkit which was then revised in 2019. The toolkit aims to simplify the process of starting and sustaining a memory cafe, in the hope that this model will continue to spread and become available to more communities.
