This guidance supports healthcare professionals in establishing, organising and facilitating post-diagnostic psycho-educational programmes for people living with dementia. Drawing on available evidence it provides guidance on session content, facilitation and relevant resources. It was commissioned by the National Dementia Office to support the implementation of the Irish National Dementia Strategy.
There is an identified care gap at the critical juncture following a diagnosis of dementia. The guidance was developed to encourage and support Health and Social Care Professionals to deliver appropriate psycho-education to people following their diagnosis. It draws on available national and international evidence; suggesting session content across a number of domains e.g. information, coping strategies, welfare, supports etc.
